ProteomeLab™ PF 2D Protein Fractionation System (Beckman Coulter Inc.)

BioVIL is equipped with a two-dimensional liquid-phase chromatography (PF 2D) system. The PF 2D system carries out extensive separation by first fractionating proteins in the sample (total cell or tissue lysates or serum) according to pI using a chromatofocusing column into up to 30 fractions (pH 8.5 – 4, every pH 0.15 – 0.3 units). Each fraction is subsequently separated using reverse-phase HPLC columns in a second dimension into up to 30 additional fractions according to retention time, resulting in the collection of up to 900 fractions in liquid phase. All these processes are fully automated. Moreover, the PSS separation system and IgY columns separates out the 12 most abundant serum proteins (albumin, IgGs, transferring, etc.) from blood samples prior to separation through the PF 2D instrument to remove these dominating and obscuring proteins.

We welcome people on- or off-campus to share our PF 2D instrument.
